‘Trust in the process’, she said.
I’ve been hearing music in color ever since I was a child. It’s called Synesthesia. It’s like hitting your head and seeing stars, except no head injury is required and the stars are in full-color. When I listen to Ziggy Stardust, the stars are blue and crimson. Change the tune to Gymnopedies, by Erik Satie, and the stars are pink and purple.
I use my synesthetic experiences to develop my color palettes. The colors reflect the energy I feel during these experiences. Utilizing color in this way requires a lot of letting-go, like a chromatic free-fall.
Creating, experiencing, and breathing art is a process. A process full of beauty, bumps and surprises. As another artist once told me, art is about ‘Trust(ing) in the process’. So is life.
